Light the bundle and as soon as a flame catches, blow it out or gently shake until it begins to smoke. Continue to hold and move the smudging stick around the room or space you are in or place in a burning bowl (or other non-flammable container) upright. For self-purification, you can use your hand or a feather to direct the smoke over your body.
